In February of 2013 in Europe and North America, the game made its transition to free-to-play and hasn’t looked back since.
The Exiled Realm of Arborea, or TERA is another previously pay-to-play MMORPG. If you haven’t heard of this game yet, then you need to do yourself a favor and read up on it over at their official website. Based on the classic Tolkien lore from the books and movies of the same name, this is classic MMO done right. The Lord of the Rings Online is not only one of the oldest free-to-play MMOs on the market right now, it’s also one of the best.

Well, have no fear, because as a sequel to my similar list from last year, I have decided to once again rank the top 5 free PC MMORPGs to play, this time in 2014. Add onto this the fact that many subscription-based or buy-to-play games wind up switching to free-to-play and you’re faced with a near-endless supply of games to choose from at any given time. Each and every year more and more get released which makes it harder and harder to keep track of which games are truly worth your time. There are literally hundreds, maybe even thousands, of free-to-play MMORPGs out there in the world.
